The Ring of Words: Tolkien and the Oxford English Dictionary finns redan nu i butikerna.
Citera:
Dr Benedikz [isländsk elev till Tolkien] has kindly allowed us to reproduce his recollection of the occasion in 1952 when he approached Tolkien, after a lecture, about how he might translate the word hobbit in the famous opening sentence: 'He was charm itself, and […] discussed with me what should be the Icelandic equivalent. He was quite firm on this. "The definition of the word is in that sentence, and the philologically accurate word is holbúi 'hole-dweller' and no one should ever use any back-formation or re-formation from hobbit." ' This makes a striking contrast with the view he expressed only a few years later in relation to the Dutch translation
The Oxford Tolkienian Dictionary?
